Sikkim Himalayan Academy (SHA)
Holistic education. Building communities for a better tomorrow.
Sikkim Himalayan Academy (SHA) was started by the locals in 2003 along with the help of a few passionate funders. This non-profit school was started with the goal of catering to children coming from very low-income backgrounds living in the rural areas of Sikkim.

We have over 60 students between the ages of 2.5 and 16, of which 15 currently live in the hostel on the school premises. The classes in our school cater to the primary section from Nursery to Class 5, and the few older kids in classes 6 to 12 study in a private school. The school currently provides free education, books, uniforms, and food to almost all children.

Student’s background: The majority of SHA children are first-generation schoolgoers. They come from unstable economic backgrounds, and the families also have complicated social relationships, which is a crucial reason for the children to be very sensitive and have an extremely high Emotional Quotient. This is why we make sure that our selection of Teachers and other Staff are carefully handled.
A community style of schooling
At SHA, we are more like a community and less like a competitive schooling system. For us, good Education and being a good Human Being are on the same page. This school has been a success story for many of our alumni and today it remains a haven of opportunity, stability, and happiness along with the provision of a well-rounded education for all our children. We are a privately funded school and looking for further stable funding that will benefit the lives of these children and create a more steady impact that provides opportunities to uplift an entire generation.
